This extensive rural garden has plantings of native and exotic trees, shrubs and groundcovers around the house, and regenerating bush on the remainder of the large block. Since last opening in 2019, shortly after cyclone Marcus, the garden has developed in both tree height and shade density.
If you are interested in seeing larger examples of local native trees, here is your opportunity. A feature is a well-established Hildegardia australiensis – a medium-sized tree which is rare and a near threatened species endemic to western Arnhem Land, found close to Coronation Hill.
A large enclosed vegetable and fruit garden has been constructed for growing seasonal tropical fruits and vegetables, protected from animal predation. Crops include pumpkin, corn, Ceylon spinach, snake beans, pawpaw and passionfruit.
The charity benefitting from the weekend opening is Wildcard. Tea, coffee and cake will be available. Top end Native Plant Society will be selling Native Plants on Saturday only.
